    很辛苦地倒了几天时差,我很快适应了这里的环境。第四天紧锣密鼓的培训课程正式开始了:每星期两天教学法课、两天戏剧应用课和一天外出听课考察活动。每天上完课,我都要求自己尽量用英语详细记录当天的收获,以求最后能学有所获。以下是第一周的专业课日记。
Thursday Aug. 4th                                             Sunny
In my great expect, Evva gave us the first Drama lesson at last. Evva is such a kind instructor that she slows down her speaking and makes us all clear about what she’s talking about. And she did a survey to make sense of what we need and what we want to know. Two hours was a long time because there was plenty of information emerged in large numbers. It was also short because it’s great fun, I didn’t want to end it at all.
Now I know the rough sketch of this course through the class. I can learn some strategies of using drama in English teaching and how to evaluate. Also I can learn some skills of writing and acting. I must cooperate with each other, share my ideas and create our best project. At the same time, I can improve my English. In the schedule I’m interested in Dr. Mark Caven’s lecture the most. Perhaps he’s going to improve our pronunciation greatly. Evva also gave us two books: “ What do I do about that the kid who……?” and “Leap into Literacy” both written by Kathleen Gould Lundy. She’s coming to give us a lecture, too. I hope the books can be read through soon so that I can share my opinions with her.
What a practical and interesting course drama is! I’m looking forward to the next lesson.

Friday Aug. 5th                                                Sunny
These two days, we played several interesting games. They are very viable in our classrooms, too. I want to write them down.
 Game 1. Hamburger
Firstly, group the students by numbers.
Secondly, change seats when hear the name word.
 Game 2. Chalk circle:
Imagine there is a chalk on your nose/ shoulder/ ……
        Draw on a imagine board.
            Painted feet:
Walk & freeze on mud, grass, hot sand and so on. Leave feet print on changeable textures. Freeze when hear the sound instructed.
            Atoms:
        Change partners.
        Present a picture instructed.
        Remember and recreate.
Game 3. Poem flocking
Nouns (present a picture), verbs( present an action). To feel the beauty of the poem along the music.
I think the first game can be used in an oral class when we teach the pronunciation rules of open and close syllables. The students can be grouped into vowels and consonant letters. When they changed seats they form different syllables. So they can practice reading the syllables out.
Game 3 can be used while teaching rhymes. The students transfer from leader to shadow, from reader to movement, and we also can do it verse by verse. It can be very vivid and imaginative. It helps children understand the meaning and mood of the rhymes well.

Monday Aug. 8th                                              Sunny
There are three places impressed me in the work today.
The first one is the humorous introduction of Terry: “ When I was a little girl I was angry because my name is in a man’s way and my hair cut short in a boy’s way.……I’m not teaching Drama. Don’t worry that I will force you to being like a bird or a horse. Evva is a teacher who makes you move, but I’m the one who will make you sleep.” When these words come out of the charming mouth, I’m awaken happily.
The second place is the Name sticks and prizes. This strategy would work well if I use it in my class. It’s fair to everyone. All the students’ oral English can be practiced. And the prizes can encourage the students to learn actively. They can feel the teacher’s appreciate and try their best.
And I want to remember the words Presentation and Quiz. It’s viable in the vocabulary learning. When I want to review the words, I can do this. It takes a few minutes but does a lot of things. It’s efficient. I will never explain the words in Chinese. I must paraphrase them in English. It helps students think in English and practice more.
I hope that I can buy the text books somewhere. I will go and ask the instructors.

Tuesday   Aug. 9th                                            Rainy
In this lesson, Dr. Lawlor designed two tasks. The tasks range from information gap to problem-solving tasks. Each of us is given opportunity to use English. At the same time, we know more and more about each other so that we can cooperate more and better in the following days. In China, we use TBL( Task based Learning) a lot, too. It may include pre-task, while-task and post-task in every lesson usually. The tasks should be open and service of the object. It should be suitable to the average of the students so that most of the students can be involved. The instructions should be clear and workable. For example, the students in Grade 3 never learned English before. I can’t let them do tasks just like “ All about me” or “ Milling card”. But I can teach some greeting sentences and self-introductions and let them make a short self-introduction at the first lesson. And at the beginning of teaching English, regular groups should be found so they can learn to help each other. Along with the language rolls up day by day, their seats and partners can be changed and the tasks can be more complex.
     充实的一周很快就过去了,接下来的日子里更要趁热打铁珍惜时间。这几天全英文的教法书看起来也津津有味,同学们精诚合作,互相督促,这种专心学习的日子真是弥足珍贵,这真是一段美好的回忆。(李佳维)
